"She finally reached her ideal weight."
The inspiration for this quilt came from a TV commercial I saw during my usual exercise program. As I walked in place to maintain my heart rate, a woman appeared on the screen, standing in triumph, as the screen exclaimed, "Zora went from size 10 to size 4!
"Huh?", I thought, huffing and puffing, "A size 10 isn't good enough?" I nearly threw my hand weight at the TV screen.
So many people, especially young women, are literally dying to be thin. They feel hopeless because their bodies don't look like those constantly portrayed by our media. We are presented with air-brushed, well-lit, surgically enhanced images that are either starved or exercised beyond normal human endurance. This obsession to be thin is unbalanced and unhealthy, and people are hurting because of it. As the mother of three beautiful children, I felt led to express the need to change our focus towards a healthier image, and a realization we are loved by God for our hearts, not our bodies... "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." - 1 Samuel 16:7b NIV
